Job Introduction
We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Management Accountant to own day-to-day accounting and management reporting for the business. Reporting to the Finance Director, you'll maintain the general ledger, prepare monthly management accounts, and support VAT, year-end, audit and KPI reporting — working independently and getting into the detail.
You'll be interested in using technology, automation and AI to simplify processes and improve reporting.
What you'll be doing:
- Maintain the general ledger (journals, adjustments and recodes).
- Prepare monthly management accounts (P&L and Balance Sheets), reconciliations and variance analysis.
- Prepare quarterly VAT returns and support the annual audit and year-end processes.
- Produce regular KPI reporting and contribute to the preparation of board packs and management information.
- Provide financial information and reports to Heads of Department.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and financial controls.
- Spot opportunities to use automation/AI to reduce manual work and improve processes
About you:
- Extensive hands-on experience as a Management Accountant (or similar) in a UK business, including journals, reconciliations, VAT and year-end
- A relevant qualification: ACCA/CIMA or similar.
- Confident with accounting software and able to pick up new systems quickly (we use Xero).
- Analytical and curious — you want to understand what's driving the numbers, not just report them.
- Self-sufficient, dependable, and comfortable owning your workload.
- Genuinely interested in improving processes through technology and automation.
- A collaborative team player, happy working in a small finance team.
